KUTACANE, LEUSER NEWS — The Southeast Aceh Resort Police (Polres Aceh Tenggara) held a press conference concerning a gruesome assault case that has shocked the region. The incident took place in Uning Sigugur Village, Babul Rahmah Subdistrict, on Monday, June 16, 2025, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and leaving one person severely injured.
The press conference was held at the main hall of the Southeast Aceh Police Headquarters and led directly by the Police Chief of Southeast Aceh, AKBP Yulhendri, S.I.K. He was accompanied by the Regent of Southeast Aceh, the Commander of Military District 0108/Aceh Tenggara, representatives from the Southeast Aceh District Attorney’s Office, members of the DPRK (Regional House of Representatives), and senior police officials including the Head of Operations and the Head of Intelligence.
The suspect, identified by the initials A.S., a resident of Pegunungan Kompas Village, fled into the mountains following the brutal attack. Based on the police investigation, the suspect spent eight days moving from one remote area to another. After committing the assault, he escaped through cornfields and into the highlands of Uning Sigugur, passing areas such as Rambung Tubung, Kuta Lang-Lang, and eventually reaching Meranti Village. He stayed the first night in a palm oil plantation hut. The next morning, around 4:30 AM, he continued through rubber and palm plantations, then rested in a cocoa farmer’s hut in Tui Jongkat. For the next two days, he again crossed cornfields and entered the mountains of Tui Jongkat. On the fifth and sixth days, the suspect navigated plantation areas in Titi Mas and Jamur Damar mountain regions. On the seventh day, he proceeded toward the Salim Pinim mountains, where all of his hiding places were located within protected and conservation forest areas. On the eighth day, at around 8:00 PM, he descended into Kute Meujile Village in Tanoh Alas Subdistrict, purchased food at a roadside stall, and made his way to his uncle’s house. While walking along a concrete road near an Islamic boarding school, he was arrested by a joint team from the Aceh Police, Southeast Aceh Police, and Babul Rahmah Sector Police at approximately 8:40 PM.

During the arrest, police seized several pieces of evidence, including the machete used during the attack, mobile phones, cutting tools, cooking equipment, water containers, personal items such as a red prayer mat and a brown waist bag, and an improvised backpack made from a small sack and rubber straps.
Police Chief AKBP Yulhendri stated that the suspect and the victims were relatives, with some of the deceased being nieces and nephews, and others the children of the suspect’s maternal siblings. The exact motive behind the heinous act is still under investigation by the criminal investigation unit.
The police confirmed that the suspect would be charged under Article 340 of the Indonesian Criminal Code and/or Article 80, Paragraph (3) of Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning amendments to Law No. 23 of 2002 on Child Protection. According to the police, the legal provisions allow for the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison sentence of 15 to 20 years.
AKBP Yulhendri expressed his deepest condolences to the victims’ families and assured the public that the case would be investigated thoroughly and fairly in accordance with the law. He also thanked members of the public for their information and cooperation, which played a key role in the arrest of the suspect without resistance.
